Worship
Calvary Church is fully committed to public worship of the triune God - Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.
Through the workings of the Holy Spirit, we offer prayers, praise, and petitions to our heavenly Father
through the mediating and intercessory work of Jesus Christ. Thus we act upon the conviction that Christian
worship is not about us or for us but unto the living God. Our worship takes into account a full range of
human emotions and is joyful and reverent in character.
Our morning worship service follows the historic four-fold pattern of Christian worship.
That pattern consists of the Entrance, the Service of the Word, the Service of the Table, and the Dismissal.
The Entrance involves the congregation gathering in the presence of God;
the Service of the Word centers on God speaking to us through the Scriptures;
the Service of the Table centers on holy communion (which Calvary observes once a month).
On other Sundays this segment is a response to God’s Word and includes such acts of worship
as offering our prayers and praise and gifts to God;
the Dismissal signifies the sending of God’s people into the world for further service and worship in daily activities.
Central to our worship services is the Word of God, which spiritually shapes and forms the worshiping community.
Our worship is intergenerational, blended musically with appreciation for the traditional, participatory,
and—because of its scriptural witness, Trinitarian focus, and Christ’s mediating presence—always relevant.
The afternoon worship service tends to follow more loosely the same pattern as the morning service.
The service has a teaching character, is pastoral in nature, and is a wonderful way to close the
festive day of worship. In all its worship services, Calvary Church will reflect a distinctively
Reformed perspective in its celebration, proclamation, and teaching. Together with all Christians
committed to the Scriptures, we speak the common language of faith—
Christ has died; Christ is risen; Christ will come again!
The distinctive Reformed perspective is the accent that colors our worship and
with which we speak and teach the Christian faith.
Join for worship! Bless the Lord! And the Lord will bless His people!
